Hello and Salams everyone! I was born in Adelaide, Australia, in the later 1900's, last century! My parents migrated to Australia from Malaysia a few years before I was born. I love my home, but I adore travelling to new places. I've been visiting Malaysia with my family since I was a child. Having a Malay mother and Chinese Malay father made my family's trips to Malaysia really interesting as we enjoyed experiencing the different cultures on both sides of the family. The trips I took with my family as a child encouraged my love of travel and the thrill of discovering exotic locations and experiencing different cultures.
I've enjoyed reading books for as long as I can remember. My favourite books to read when I was growing up were the Baby Sitters Club, and Nancy Drew series. I loved those books but I always thought it would be fun to read about an Australian heroine who was not necessarily fair-haired and fair-skinned [Enter Ayesha Dean!]
After university my husband James and I welcomed our son Ilyaas, and a couple of years later we found ourselves in Geneva, Switzerland where I was interning for an International Human Rights NGO. We then spent some time in The Netherlands where I worked for the United Nations assisting in the prosecution of war crimes that had occurred in the former Yugoslavia. During that time we were lucky enough to do as much travelling as we could around Europe, including a trip to Istanbul where the first Ayesha Dean adventure is set!
I've spent most of my time working as a lawyer in criminal law, prosecuting crimes in the courts. I think my interest in criminal prosecution and working with detectives made me want to write Ayesha Dean mysteries! Nowadays you'll find me dreaming of my next travel adventure, writing my next story, trying to learn a new language, or playing with my two fluffy Siberian cats :)
